Storm events (🌀 Storms) (TPA)
The 🌀 Storms tab counts claims for each storm by state, on a map of the 50 states and DC. It updates live: on the team server, a claim an examiner saves shows on the claims manager's map within seconds.
- Add a storm (claims managers, coordinators and administrators): name, type (hurricane, tropical storm, tornado outbreak, hail, severe wind, winter storm, wildfire, flood, earthquake or other), the PCS catastrophe number when one is assigned, the states, and the start and end dates.
- Claims match automatically when the loss state is one of the storm's states, the date of loss falls within its dates and the cause is weather. An examiner can also tag a claim to a storm from 🌀 Storm on the Notice of Loss; a tag always wins.
- The map shades each state by its number of claims (darker means more), with a legend; click a state to list its claims. Above it: reported, new today, open, closed and states affected. By state shows the same numbers as a table.
- Closing a claim: on the Notice of Loss, Claim open or closed closes the claim with how it closed (paid, below the deductible, not covered, withdrawn, no response, denied, duplicate, referred to flood or other) and records the date; choosing Open reopens it. The claim then reads Closed on the queue, in loss runs and in the storm counts, which split closed with payment from closed without.
- ⬇ Data call (CSV) gives the counts by storm, state and line of business, ready for a state catastrophe data call. ⬇ Claim list (CSV) gives every matching claim.
- The counts are your own claims. Industry-wide counts across all insurers come from paid catastrophe data services.
