The automatic initial reserve: reported damage, then the damage photos
The automatic reserve works in two steps.
- 1. The damage the insured reported: until damage photos come in, it covers only what the insured reported in the notice of loss (Damage reported and the loss description): the rooms they named, the roof or exterior if they mentioned it, and other structures, contents or loss of use only if they reported them. Inspection notes, mitigation details, other notes and the number of photos don't raise it. With only a cause of loss and nothing reported, it waits.
- 2. The damage photos: when photos labeled as damage come in, it's worked out again from what the photos show: the rooms in them, the roof or exterior, the severity in the photo descriptions, contents shown. It can go up or down. A room the insured reported that no photo shows yet is flagged on the reserve panel, so it can be photographed or noted.
- Posting (Desk and Field): the first figure posts by itself, and the photo figure posts again when the photos come in. Each one is in the reserve history and the activity log. Once you set the reserve by hand, nothing changes it automatically; the panel shows when the suggestion has moved 20% or more.
- Reject it: ✕ Reject automatic reserve, next to Accept as my reserve, turns the automatic reserve off for that claim and takes off the figure it posted (the history and activity log record it). Then set your own. Turn automatic back on undoes it.
- Set your own: ✎ Set my own reserve opens a figure for each coverage and the expense reserve (the suggestion shows as a hint), with a note for the file. Save my reserve records it in the reserve history and the activity log; nothing automatic changes it after that. ✎ Change my reserve edits it later.
- Carrier and TPA: reserves post through Financials with authority. The suggestion follows the same two steps, and when damage photos change it by 15% (and $500) or more, Financials shows Damage photos are in with Review the change. ✕ Reject automatic reserve and ✎ Set my own reserve sit beside Start from the suggestion there.
- Photos must be labeled as damage: photos marked as overview or not labeled yet don't count. Label them on the Photos tab.
- Amounts: the per-room, roof, exterior and minimum figures come from Reserving guidelines on the reserve panel, which supervisors can change.
