Off-site backups (Desk)
Every night the workspace copies its data folder (claims, photos, documents, users, settings and history) to S3-compatible storage you own, separate from Render. Render's own daily disk snapshots, kept 7 days, keep working alongside.
- How long: every night's backup is kept for 90 days, and the backup from the 1st of each month for 7 years (
BACKUP_DAILY_DAYS,BACKUP_MONTHLY_YEARS). Photos and files are stored once, so each night adds only what's new. A file deleted in Claimsfy stays in the backup until no kept backup needs it. - Encrypted: with
BACKUP_ENCRYPTION_KEYset, every file is encrypted (AES-256-GCM) before it leaves the workspace. Keep the key in your password manager: the backups can't be restored without it. - Set it up: create a private bucket (AWS S3, Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2 or Wasabi) and an access key limited to that bucket. In Render → the service → Environment, add
BACKUP_S3_ENDPOINT(for examplehttps://s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com,https://s3.us-west-004.backblazeb2.comorhttps://<account id>.r2.cloudflarestorage.com),BACKUP_S3_REGION(us-east-1,us-west-004, orautofor R2),BACKUP_S3_BUCKET,BACKUP_S3_KEY,BACKUP_S3_SECRETandBACKUP_ENCRYPTION_KEY, then save. Each workspace gets its own folder in the bucket, named afterAPP_URL(or setBACKUP_PREFIX), so one bucket can hold every workspace. - Check it: 👤 → 🗄 Backups (administrators) shows the last backup, how many files are kept off-site, where they're stored, and Back up now. A failed backup is recorded in History, and Claimsfy Support's monitoring tells the Claimsfy team.
- Restore: with the same settings,
node server/backup.js listshows the days you can restore, andnode server/backup.js restore 2026-10-15 /restoredownloads that day into an empty folder (in Render → the service → Shell, or on any computer with Node). Stop the workspace, replace the contents ofDATA_DIRwith the restored folder, and start it again. - Storage: each workspace starts with a 50 GB disk. Claimsfy Support grows it before it fills when it has a Render API key and the workspace's disk ID (see the Claimsfy Support README).
